Character Exploration - Bree (The Horse and His Boy)

This section shows my character design explorations for the protagonist 'Bree' from my personal project based on CS Lewis’s novel ‘The Horse and His Boy’ (progressing from bottom to top)

Stage 4 - I solidified the look I was going for, blocked in some general values, and did some more gesture studies

Stage 3 - I did research on the cultural setting of my story and found a number of horse saddle references. From these, I designed a simplified version for his saddle and continued to experiment with body proportions

I also explored facial expressions and personality

Stage 2 - I explored the general design for the horse’s body through different poses and gesture drawings

Stage 1 - I made a simplified lineup to establish general shape language and relative size for my cast
