Character Exploration - Tarkaan (The Horse and His Boy)

This section shows my character design explorations for the villain 'Tarkaan' from my personal project based on CS Lewis’s novel ‘The Horse and His Boy’ (progressing from bottom to top)

Stage 5 - I explored clothing and weapons designs based on ancient Persian and Babylonian inspiration

These spear explorations were drawn from various historical styles around ancient Persia and the Mediterranean

Stage 4 - I started adding color and texture to character drawings, and also made sure he had a clear and recognizable silhouette

Stage 3 - I established expressions congruent with the character’s personality

Stage 2 - I started trying different gesture drawings to establish personality and further explore shape language, clothing, and props

Stage 1 - I started with a basic lineup of the characters to establish general shape language and relative size of my cast
